The FTA typically processes deregistration applications within 20 business days from submission of a complete application. However, if the FTA initiates an audit or requests additional information, the timeline may extend. With our expert handling, most clients receive approval within 25-30 days from initial consultation.
Yes, you can re-register for VAT if your business circumstances change and you again meet the registration thresholds. You must apply for registration within 30 days if your taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 over any 12-month period, or you can voluntarily register if exceeding AED 187,500.
You must retain all tax-related documents for at least 5 years from the date of deregistration. For property-related transactions, records must be kept for up to 15 years. This includes invoices, financial statements, VAT returns, and all supporting documentation.
You must file a final VAT return covering the period up to your deregistration date within 28 days after deregistration approval. All outstanding VAT liabilities must be paid with this return. If you have a credit balance, you can apply for a refund through the EmaraTax portal.
An expired trade license can complicate the deregistration process. The FTA may delay or reject your application. We recommend renewing your trade license before applying, or providing comprehensive closure documentation including liquidation letters and final business activity proof.
Failing to apply for VAT deregistration within the mandatory 20-business-day timeframe results in an administrative penalty of AED 10,000. Additional penalties may apply if VAT returns are not filed or outstanding liabilities remain unpaid.
